EPS slams Cong. president for supporting Mekedatu project

DMK president Stalin is the only leader who endorsed Congress president Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate, but no other opposition party is ready to accept it, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said here on Friday.

Campaigning at different parts of Salem for candidates Anbumani Ramadoss-nominee of Dharmapuri constituency , K.R.S.Saravanan for the Salem constituency and P. Kalliappan for Namakkal constituency, he said Mr. Stalin, during his campaign speeches, never talked about what the DMK had done while in power and was levelling false allegations against him.

Criticising the Congress president, he said that while Tamil Nadu had won a favourable judgment in the Cauvery issue, Mr. Gandhi campaigned in Karnataka saying Mekadatu dam would be built.

Mr. Palaniswami said, “If the dam is built across Cauvery river, it would affect Tamil Nadu severely.”

Mr. Palaniswami said a scheme linking the Godavari and the Cauvery would certainly be implemented to meet the water needs of the drought-hit areas.

The aim of the mega alliance in the State was to form a stable government in the Centre. “We have formed the mega alliance to establish a stable and strong government at the Centre,” he said.

Campaigning at Konganapuram Mr. Palaniswami said water from the Mettur dam would be used to fill lakes in the region and meet water needs here. He added that steps would be taken to reduce cable television tariffs.
