The Indian colts emulated the senior squad by winning the U-19 Asia Cup, with a crushing 144-run win over Sri Lanka in the final at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on Sunday.
Runaway favourite India outplayed Sri Lanka in all departments by first scoring an imposing 303 for six after skipper PrabhSimran Singh elected to bat.
All the Indian batsmen contributed with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (85, 113b, 8x4, 1x6) and Anuj Rawat (57, 79b, 4x4, 3x6) laying a solid foundation with an 121-run stand.
Badoni goes berserk
The highlight of the Indian innings was Ayush Badoni’s unbeaten 52 off 28 balls which included five sixes and two fours.
Badoni hit four sixes, with a couple of them landing in the stands, in an over from left-arm spinner Shashika Dulshan.
Along with Prabh Simran (65 n.o., 37b, 3x4, 4x6), Badoni added 110 runs in 9.1 overs to bat Sri Lanka out of the match.
The island nation was never in the chase and was dismissed for 160 in 38.4 overs, with left-arm spinner Harsh Tyagi registering brilliant figures of six for 38 in his 10 overs.
He flighted a few and fired a few down the channel in what was his best performance at the U-19 level till date.
“I couldn’t play today but I am very happy that my team won,” said regular captain Pavan Shah.
Man-of-the-match Tyagi, who bowled a disciplined line, said: “The instruction was to bowl at one spot after doing a video analysis of the Sri Lanka team. The wicket also assisted the spinners.”
Jaiswal adjudged best
The consistent left-hander Jaiswal, who hit some flowing drives in the final, was adjudged man-of-the-tournament for his tally of 318 runs.
The scores: India U-19 303 for six in 50 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 85, Anuj Rawat 57, PrabhSimran Singh 65 n.o., Ayush Badoni 52 n.o.) bt Sri Lanka U-19 160 in 38.4 overs (Harsh Tyagi six for 38).
