Small cars showdown at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012

Come this January 2012, the Indian automobile industry will see a whole new change with number of launches post the Delhi Auto Expo. The Auto Expo is undoubtedly the most awaited event in the automobile industry. Yes, there are about 50 new cars that will be showcased at the Expo. These cars will be unveiled at the expo and will later be launched in 2012. 

Here is the list of hatchbacks that will debut at the expo.

The Maruti 800 may bring nostalgic moments to the people who owned it a decade back and is here to stay for some more time. Maruti will launch an all new Maruti 800 with a complete makeover in the outside and inside. The new 800 will get a 793cc petrol engine updated to meet the Bharat Stage V emission norms. The new 800 will compete with the Tata Nano, is expected to be launched in early 2012 at an expected price of Rs.2.0-2.5 lakhs.

Mahindra Reva NXR:

After a lot of speculations, the new Reva NXR will finally be launched in 2012. The NXR is a 3-door 4-seater hatchback that will be in the likes on the Tata Nano. The car will be sold in two versions, The Reva NXR city and the NXR. The NXR City is the cheapest version that comes with a lead acid battery that can run upto 80km on a single charge and a max speed of 80kph. Whereas the NXR gets powerful lithium ion batteries that can run upto 160km on a single charge and a max speed of 104kph. The hatchback is expected to go on floors by mid-2012 at an expected price of Rs.3-4.5 lakhs.

Mini Mahindra Xylo:

The big MUV from Mahindra that gave the Innova a major jolt with lesser price and great comfort now gets a mini version. The Xylo mini will be a hatchback that fall under the sub 4-metre category. The Xylo looks similar to its elder brother minus the bulky size. There are no changes in the interior as well, the same interiors remain. The hatchback will be powered by a 1.5ltr 3-cylinder diesel engine. Four wheel drive will be an option on the Xylo mini. The car will be at the showrooms by early 2012 at an expected price of Rs.4-5 lakhs.

Ford Fiesta Hatchback:

Ford launched the Fiesta sedan recently with much hype failed to tick the sales numbers will showcase its hatchback at the Expo and launched in the coming year. The Fiesta hatchbak is the similar as the sedan in terms of looks and features minus the boot. The hatchback will get a 1.5ltr petrol and 1.5ltr diesel engines delivering a power of 107bhp@14.2kgm of torque and 88.7bhp@20.8kgm of torque respectively. Ford Fiesta sedan did not manage to keep the sales numbers ticking since it was priced high among its competitora and hence it is very important for Ford to price it right keeping the competition in mind else will experience the same slow sales pace. The Fiesta hatchback is expected to be launched by mid 2012 at a price of Rs.6 lakh.

Fiat  Punto Evo:

Fiat confirms the launch of the Punto Evo post the Expo. The Punto Evo gets cosmetic changes like the new front grille, bumper, headlamp and fog lamp cluster, rear tail lamp cluster and rear bumper. The interiors get a refreshed dash as well and will see no changes in the technical department. The Punto Evo will share the same 1.2ltr petrol and the 1.3ltr diesel engines that currently do duty on the Punto.

Chevrolet Sail:

General Motors that took a long gap after the launch if the Beat diesel will now launch the Chevrolet Sail in the coming year. General Motors will launch the hatchback first, Sedan slated for launch later in the year. The Sail is a good looking hatchback with added muscle everywhere unlike the boring Aveo-UVA. The car will only get a 1.2ltr petrol engine that delivers 79bhp and a torque of 10.91kgm. The car is expected to be launched in April 2012 at a price of under Rs.4 lakh.
